GRADE 1 ELA — FULL YEAR CURRICULUM
Rise & Learn Grade 1 ELA is a complete, mastery‑based reading program built around four quarters, each with a clear developmental purpose. The curriculum gently guides students from foundational phonics to advanced reading skills through consistent routines, decodable readers, blending practice, and targeted skill work.
This full-year program includes 12 phonics units plus a growing library of ELA extras that support reading, writing, fluency, and vocabulary.
QUARTER 1 — Foundational Phonics: Short Vowels
Students build the foundation of reading through systematic instruction in the five short vowel sounds. This quarter focuses on:
CVC words
blending routines
early decoding
confidence‑building practice
simple, clean worksheets
Units Included: 1–6
QUARTER 2 — Skill Application: Blends & Digraphs
Students apply their foundational skills to more complex patterns, learning to read and spell blends and digraphs with accuracy and fluency. This quarter strengthens:
beginning blends
ending blends
common digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh, ck)
reading stamina
spelling patterns
Units Included: 7–10
QUARTER 3 — Long Vowels (CVCe & Vowel Teams)
Students transition into long vowel patterns with clear, explicit instruction and decodable practice that builds fluency and confidence. This quarter introduces:

QUARTER 4 — Advanced Phonics: Beyond Vowels
Students move into more advanced phonics concepts that prepare them for Grade 2 reading. This quarter will include:
